Privacy Policy

SeedBox is a small app for tracking your seed collection, planning when to sow, and understanding your local frost dates. This page explains what data we collect and how we use it — in plain terms, without the corporate boilerplate.
What we collect
Account details — your name and email address when you register, and a securely hashed password. We use these to identify your account and send you a verification email when you sign up. That's it.
Your seed library — everything you add to the app: seed types, varieties, notes, status, planning dates, and any photos you choose to upload. This is your data; we store it so your library syncs across devices and survives a phone change.
Location (optional) — if you choose to look up frost dates, we store your location (postcode, town name, or approximate GPS coordinates) on your account. This is used solely to fetch and display your local frost dates and personalise sowing windows. You can clear it at any time in Settings, and it is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
Notifications — if you enable task or frost reminders, we store your preferred notification time. No notification content leaves your device.
Subscription status — whether you have an active SeedBox Premium subscription, managed through Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment card details; those are handled entirely by Google.
What we do with it
We use your data to run the app: to let you log in, sync your seed library, show you relevant sowing windows, and deliver reminders you've asked for. We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.
Third-party services
Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — used to fetch historical weather data for frost date calculations. When you look up frost dates by location name, that search query is sent to Open-Meteo. Your account details are not shared.
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — used to convert GPS coordinates into a place name when you use the "Use my location" feature. Coordinates are sent to our own server first; we cache results so the same location is only looked up once. We do not forward your account details.
Google Play Billing — subscription purchases are processed by Google. If you subscribe to SeedBox Premium, Google notifies us that a valid subscription exists for your account. We do not receive your payment method or billing address. Google's privacy policy applies to the purchase transaction.
Firebase / Crashlytics — if the app crashes, an anonymised crash report is sent to Google Firebase to help us diagnose and fix issues. These reports do not include your email, seed data, or location.
How long we keep it
Your account data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the app (Settings → Delete my account), your profile, seed library, and location data are permanently deleted from our servers. Location data can also be cleared independently at any time in Settings without deleting your account.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct anything that's wrong, ask us to delete it, restrict how we use it, or receive it in a portable format. For most of this — deletion in particular — the fastest route is Settings → Delete my account directly in the app. For anything else, or if you have a question, email us at support@seed-box.co.uk and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date at the top and, if the changes affect how we use your personal data in a significant way, notify you by email.
